Sewer Improvement Work Continues – Antrim Street Area Lisburn

13 June 2018 10:34

NI Water is investing approximately £500K to upgrade the sewerage infrastructure in the Antrim Street area of Lisburn. This is a continuation of the work completed previously in 2016/17. Work will commence in early July and we anticipate the project will take approximately 6 months to complete.

The proposed construction work will involve the upgrade of existing sewers on Antrim Street and Antrim Road (rear entrance to Bow Street Mall), and the relocation and upgrade of an existing Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) from Antrim Street into the Antrim Street car park.

The first section of work will take place on Antrim Street and Antrim Road (rear entrance to Bow Street Mall).  In order to carry out the work on Antrim Street safely, it will be necessary to have a one-way road closure in place, with traffic diverted along Bachelors Walk. This will commence on Monday 23rdJuly and will be in place for approximately 5 weeks. During this period, the entrance to Bow Street Mall will also be reduced to one lane; temporary traffic controls will be in place to maintain two-way access to the Mall during this time.

Subsequent to this, construction work will move into the Antrim Street car park and continue until December 2018. During which time there will be a reduction in the number of parking spaces available.

As part of the preparations for this scheme, NI Water would like to invite the public along to a ‘drop-in’ information event, where residents, business owners and the public are welcome to come along to find out more about the overall project.

Date: Wednesday 20th June 2018

Time:  4.15pm to 7pm – please feel free to drop in at any stage during this period

Location: Bridge Community Centre – The Hamilton Room

50 Railway Street, Lisburn BT28 1XP

Members of the NI Water project team along with representatives from our contractor BSG Civil Engineering will be available to discuss the scheme in further detail and address any concerns you may have.

Once complete, this investment will significantly improve the existing infrastructure, reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding and environmental pollution and protect the water quality in the River Lagan.

NI Water will continue to liaise with the Department for Infrastructure and all our stakeholders and would like to thank the public advance for their patience and cooperation whilst we complete this essential improvement work. We assure you that we will do everything that we can to minimise disruption as far as possible.

ENDS.
