Work Recommences on Main Street, Ballykelly

18 July 2019 10:30

Following a pause in the work on the Ballykelly Sewerage Improvement Scheme, to reduce disruption during the Open Golf Championship, NI Water would like to remind the public that work will recommence on the Main Street, Ballykelly on Monday 22nd July.

A continuous lane closure will be in place on Main Street from Monday and normal working hours will be 7am to 11pm, 7 days a week, until completion. During this period, the Glenhead Road will be closed at the junction of Main Street for up to 4 weeks; a diversion route will be clearly signposted during the road closure. Available parking spaces on Main Street may be reduced as work progresses along the street, however, pedestrian access to all businesses adjacent to the works will be as normal. Please use the parking areas just off Main Street or the main carpark adjacent to the primary school on Glenhead Road, which will be accessible from Glenhead Road during the closure.

All businesses in Ballykelly remain open for business as usual throughout the works.

This scheme represents an investment of approximately £900,000 to upgrade the sewerage system on Main Street, Ballykelly. A number of homes in the village presently suffer from ‘out-of-sewer’ flooding during heavy rainfall. The main purpose of the work is to reduce this flooding risk and the impact on affected households. To do this, we have to install a major sewer through the village, which will take excess rainwater from Main Street to the river.

We would like to thank the public for their ongoing patience and cooperation while we undertake these essential works; we will endeavour to ensure that all works are completed as soon as practicably possible. Our main aim is to ensure we deliver an upgraded sewerage system that will enable Ballykelly to cope better with heavy rain in the future, which will be welcome news for residents who have suffered previous flooding incidents.

NI Water fully appreciates the major disruption these works are having on those who live and work in Ballykelly, or commute through the village.  During the works, our teams are on the road from 7am to 11pm, 7 days a week, to keep the work progressing as quickly as possible.
