Sewer Laying To Commence in Bushmills

04 May 2010 8:38

Northern Ireland Water (NI Water) wishes to announce that it will be carrying out essential sewer laying along a section of the Whitepark Road (A2) in Bushmills from 17th May for a period of two weeks as part of its £6.5 million Bushmills/Portballintrae Wastewater Treatment Project.

In a bid to keep traffic disruption to a minimum, NI Water, in liaison with Roads Service, has programmed this work to take place after the North West 200 event and before the last Bank Holiday Monday in May.

To facilitate the pipelaying work in the safest possible manner, NI Water and its contractors, GEDA Construction, will implement a lane closure on the short section of Whitepark Road which will be affected by the work (approximately 100m adjacent to the entrance to the new Wastewater Treatment Works).

All pipelaying work will take place during normal working hours (8am – 5pm) and traffic flow for the period will be managed using a temporary traffic light system.

As part of these network improvements, NI Water’s contractors will also be constructing a large manhole on Whitepark Road. This work will require a road closure to ensure the highest level of safety. To keep traffic disruption to a minimum, NI Water has asked its contractor to carry out this work at night. The two nights currently scheduled for this work are Wednesday 26th and Thursday 27th May. A short diversion along Main Street (B66), Straid Road (B17), Castlenagree Road and Dundarave Road will be implemented during this time.

All efforts will be made by NI Water and their contractors to carry out this essential upgrade work as quickly as possible and the team will strive to ensure minimum possible disruption to the local community and road users. Advance notification of traffic management plans will be displayed in the locality and the project team will endeavour to keep local businesses and residents informed as the scheme progresses.

NI Water and GEDA Construction would like to thank the public in advance for their co-operation during this vital improvement work. Customers with any questions on the scheme should contact Waterline on 08457 440088.
