Frozen Reservoirs are a Real Danger!

09 December 2010 7:58

NI Water would like to advise members of the public that playing on or near frozen reservoirs is extremely dangerous.

Whilst these reservoirs look like attractive places to play, there are many hidden dangers which could put people’s lives at risk.

NI Water’s Liam Mulholland highlighted the dangers:

"People assume the ice over a reservoir is thick enough to play on. However, the ice could be thin in places and there is a risk someone could fall through into the freezing water. If this happened, there is a risk of someone drowning.

The public have a responsibility for their own safety. NI Water needs the help and support of the whole community to assist us in maintaining public safety and would appeal to parents to ensure they warn their children about the dangers of playing on frozen lakes."
