Sludge disposal Limavady

31 March 2011 12:19

“The sludge treatment plant on Broad Road, Limavady, is owned and operated by Digit Site Services Ltd and authorised by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA). NI Water has no control of its operation and is not responsible for any odour complaints against the plant.

“NI Water has a long term contract for the disposal of wastewater sludges and whilst NI Water’s contractor plans to incinerate sludges at Duncrue Street in Belfast, the stringent controls of operating the permit requires the contractor to carry out additional investment to enable incineration.

“Working with the NIEA, the contractor currently anticipates full incineration at the Belfast plant to be in place by the end of June 2011.

“In the interim, disposal of treated and stabilised sludge to land is permitted under the contract, provided it complies with all relevant legislation.”
