Davy McGrath NI Water Project Manager for the Greyabbey scheme waves goodbye to the diggers with primary one pupils from Greyabbey Primary School | NI Water News
NI Water is pleased to announce that work has now been completed on the pipelaying element of NI Water’s Greyabbey Flood Alleviation scheme. The entire project involved a £1.3 million investment to upgrade the sewerage infrastructure in the village and essential improvement work at Greyabbey Wastewater Treatment Works to improve wastewater services for our customers in the area.

In recent years, the Greyabbey area has experienced growth due to tourism and residential development. This growth, combined with a requirement to meet Northern Ireland Environment Agency Standards, meant that this programme of work was essential to improve the sewerage infrastructure and reduce the risk of flooding in the village. The scheme will also help to improve the water quality transferred to Strangford Lough, much to the benefit of the environment and marine life in the area.

Davy McGrath NI Water Project Manager said:

“I would like to thank everyone involved in helping to ensure that the pipelaying work ran smoothly, safely and was completed on schedule. NI Water appreciates the scenic importance of the surrounding area and the completion of the project will undoubtedly improve the environment and water quality in Strangford Lough, while reducing the risk of flooding to the village.

“The work was successfully completed in close co-operation with local elected representatives, DRD Roads Service, PSNI Traffic Management and Ards Borough Council. NI Water and our contractor, BSG Ltd, would like to thank local representatives, businesses in the village and road-users in the area for their patience and co-operation throughout this essential improvement scheme.”
