Sewer Rehabilitation Work Continues: Inner Walls Public Realm Sewers, Derry/Londonderry

27 March 2017 11:01

Work is progressing well on NI Water’s Sewer Rehabilitation Project within Derry City Walls. Work will commence in the Bishop Gate area of Bishop Street on Sunday 26th of March and we anticipate this work will take approximately 1 week to complete.

Extensive investigation works, which were carried out during November 2016, identified that the sewer around Bishop Gate is in poor condition and requires rehabilitation works. Therefore, it is necessary to re-lay this section of sewer as soon as possible. All of these works are being programmed to be completed prior to the commencement of Public Realm work within the Walls later this year.

Detailed traffic management arrangements have been discussed with Transport NI. In order for the works to be carried out safely, it will be necessary to have a road closure in place on Bishop Street for the duration of the works and a diversion route will be clearly signposted. The road closure will commence at 8am on Sunday 26th of March. Vehicular access will be maintained for residents where possible and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. There will also be parking restrictions in place within the working area.

Working hours will generally be 8am to 8pm; however, it may be necessary to undertake some work outside of these hours. We will do everything within our means to keep noise levels to a minimum during the evening work.

NI Water and our contractor Quinn Automatic Ltd would like to thank the public for their ongoing patience and co-operation while this essential work is completed.
