NI Water Greystown / Malone Flood Alleviation Project Gets Underway

16 January 2018 12:57

NI Water and the Department for Infrastructure are pleased to announce that work is now underway on the Greystown/Malone Flood Alleviation Project. We anticipate that the work will take approximately 18 months to complete.

This is a multi-agency project jointly funded by NI Water and the Department for Infrastructure Rivers, to resolve ongoing internal and external flooding issues within the area. The scheme will involve the upgrading of the existing combined sewers and the DfI Rivers culvert from Upper Malone Road to Finnis Close, and when complete will reduce the risk of ‘out of sewer’ flooding and environmental pollution in the area.

Detailed traffic arrangements have been discussed with the Department for Infrastructure to try to minimise the impact of these works on residents, road users and the public. In order to carry out some sections of the work safely, it will be necessary to have temporary lane/road closures in place; these will be clearly signposted with diversion routes in place where appropriate.

The first road closure will be on Malfin Drive commencing in early January 2018 for approximately 6 months. We will issue details relating to any further road closures to the affected residents in advance as the work progresses.

Vehicular access will be maintained for the residents where possible although may be subject to slight delay, and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Normal working hours will be 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday; however, it may be necessary at times for work to be carried out outside of these hours.

NI Water, our contractor BSG Civil Engineering and DfI Rivers would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation and will do everything we can to reduce disruption while we complete these essential Flood Alleviation works. Customer queries should be directed to Waterline on 03457 440088.
