Newtownbreda Flood Alleviation Scheme gets Underway

19 February 2018 16:45

NI Water will commence work on a major Flood Alleviation Scheme on the Newtownbreda Road on Monday 26th February 2018. We anticipate that the work will take approximately 8 weeks to complete.

This essential project is being undertaken to reduce the risk of flooding at a number of properties in the area. The proposed construction work will involve the installation of a large diameter sewer and associated manholes on the Newtownbreda Road.

In order to carry out the works safely, it will be necessary to have a full road closure in place on the Newtownbreda Road between Orchard Mews and Village Court with no through traffic permitted.  A diversion route will be clearly signposted.  The road will remain closed for the full 8 week period although normal working hours will be 7.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Saturday; however, it may be necessary at times for work to be carried out outside of these hours.

Vehicular access will be maintained to properties within the works area as far as possible, however at certain at times this may be via the diversion route. There will also be some parking restrictions in place around the works area.

NI Water has also liaised closely with Translink and Breda Academy to ensure that disruption to residents, business and the general public is minimised as far as possible.  Arrangements have been agreed with Translink to facilitate buses servicing the school and details of these arrangements will be provided to pupils through Breda Academy.

NI Water and our contractor Quinn Automatic would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation and will do everything we can to reduce disruption while we complete this essential investigation work. Customer queries should be directed to Waterline on 03457 440088.
