Bangor Sewerage Improvement Scheme at Castle Park – Weekend Working

20 March 2018 15:25

NI Water is currently undertaking a major Capital works programme to improve the sewerage infrastructure and key pumping stations in the Bangor area. The overall project represents an investment of £10 million in the local infrastructure by NI Water.

The current phase of the programme involves the replacement of the existing Waste Water pumping station at Castle Park along with the upgrade of sewers in the area.

Work is programmed to take place this weekend 23rd – 26th March on the Newtownards Road close to the junction with the Belfast Road. Work will commence on Friday evening at 7.00pm until Monday morning at 7.00am. The proposed construction work will redirect flows from four Combined Sewer Overflows to the new Castle Park Pumping Station. This will reduce the risk of out of sewer flooding and will improve water quality in Clandeboye Stream.

Works of this nature inevitably involve the use of heavy machinery, however we will endeavour to minimize noise as far as possible especially during the night-time hours, and will as far as possible undertake the most disruptive elements of work prior to 11pm.

In order for this work to be carried out safely, it will be necessary to have a temporary road closure in place on the A21 Newtownards Road, this will be in place between its junction with Abbey Street and Church Street for traffic outbound from Bangor Town Centre. A road closure will also be in place on Croft Street during this time to facilitate the works, with temporary traffic lights in operation to manage both local traffic from Croft Street and the inbound traffic to Bangor along the Newtownards Road.  Diversion routes will be clearly signposted during this time. Vehicular access will be maintained for residents where possible and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

NI Water and our contractor Dawson WAM would like to thank the local community and road users for their patience and cooperation while we complete these essential works.
