NI Water Greystown / Malone Flood Alleviation Project Continues

23 May 2018 15:52

Works are progressing well on this major Flood Alleviation Project in the Greystown/Malone area of South Belfast. Sewer laying work has now been completed along Malfin Drive and construction work has moved into Upper Malone Park. We anticipate that this section of work will take approximately 8 weeks to complete, with all works expected to be completed in 18 months.

This is a multi-agency project representing a £4million investment, jointly funded by NI Water and the Department for Infrastructure Rivers. The scheme  involves the upgrading of the existing combined sewers and the DfI Rivers culvert from Upper Malone Road to Finnis Close, which when complete will reduce the risk of ‘out of sewer’ flooding and environmental pollution in the area.

In order to carry out the work safely within Upper Malone Park it is necessary to have a road closure in place for the duration of the works; a diversion route will be clearly signposted during this time. There will also be parking restrictions in place around the working area.

As the work in Upper Malone Park progresses, different traffic management arrangements will be in place to ensure that vehicular access for residents is always maintained. Pedestrian access will be available at all times.

Normal working hours will be 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday; however, it may be necessary at times for work to be carried out outside of these hours.

NI Water, our contractor BSG Civil Engineering and the Department for Infrastructure Rivers would like to thank the public for their ongoing patience and co-operation, we will continue do everything possible to reduce disruption while we complete these essential Flood Alleviation works. Customer queries should be directed to Waterline on 03457 440088.
