Road Closure - NI Water carries out emergency repair work on Tates Avenue

10 November 2023 15:41

NI Water is carrying out emergency repair work on a sewer on Tates Avenue, Belfast which requires a road closure and traffic diversions.

Tates Avenue is expected to be continuously closed from Ebor Street to Lisburn Road from Friday 10th November 2023 to Friday 17th November 2023.

Two diversions are in place:

Diversion 1 is at Boucher Road, Stockman’s Lane and Lisburn Road.

Diversion 2 is at Glenmachan Street, Donegall Road, Shaftesbury Square, Great Victoria Street, Bruce Street, Dublin Road, Shaftesbury Square, Bradbury Place, Lisburn Road.

Nigel McDowell, Developer Services, explained: “NI Water has been working on Tates Avenue for the last ten days completing a sewer extension for a new development. Unfortunately, ground conditions are causing damage to the existing public sewer and to the road, meaning it is too dangerous for traffic to pass the works.  Emergency repair works need to be carried out immediately and a full road closure is required to allow that work to start straight away.

“We fully appreciate the frustration and inconvenience this road closure will cause.  Please be assured our team is working as fast as possible to complete this emergency repair work.  However, it is a difficult project, with an expected completion date of Friday 17th November 2023.”

Ends

  • The team will be working into the evenings with additional resources to try to complete the work by Friday 17th November.
  • The team will not be on site on Remembrance Day on Sunday.
