£1.5m Sewer Improvement Scheme for Hillsborough

22 April 2013 15:30

NI Water will shortly commence work on a major programme of Sewer Improvement Work in Hillsborough.  The work will involve laying a sewerage pumping main along the Culcavy Road from the Hillsborough Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) to the Magherageery sewage pumping station.  Construction of the pumping main is due to commence in late May 2013 and will continue for approximately 14 weeks.

The existing Hillsborough Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW) is reaching the end of its useful life, and is in need of replacement. NI Water has decided that the preferred option is to transfer the sewerage to the Lisburn Catchment and treat it at the New Holland WwTW site. This scheme will improve the sewerage infrastructure in the Hillsborough and Culcavy area, accommodating future development, and will vastly improve the water quality in the local Carnreagh River and its receiving water- the River Lagan.

As with all work of this nature, there will be some traffic disruption during the installation of this pumping main. Traffic management will be in place such as traffic light systems and lane closures as necessary. As short road closures may also be required, NI Water will, in co-operation with DRD Roads Service, do everything possible to keep any disruption to a minimum and ensure that public transport services function with minimum disruption.

NI Water and our contractor BSG Civil Engineering Ltd. would like to thank the public in advance for their understanding and patience in this matter and will do everything possible to complete the work as quickly as possible with minimum disruption.  This work will be completed in sections and traffic management including signage will be in place throughout this work.

NI Water’s customer relations team can be contacted via Waterline on 08457 440088. Customers with any questions on the scheme should quote “BSG Hillsborough Sewer Improvement Scheme”
