Sewerage Infrastructure Improvements Get Underway Between Ballymartin & Kilkeel

28 April 2014 16:55

NI Water would like to advise the public that pipelaying work is due to get underway in Ballymartin during the week commencing 5th May 2014 as part of a £600,000 investment that will deliver a new sewerage infrastructure for the Ballymartin area.

The work will involve the installation of a pumping main to link the new wastewater pumping station, which is being constructed adjacent to the Main Road in Ballymartin, with Kilkeel Wastewater Treatment Works.

Pipelaying work will commence at Main Road, Ballymartin during the week commencing 5th May and will continue along the A2 to Kilkeel for approximately 14 weeks.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane along the sections of the A2 affected by pipelaying. A traffic light system will be in operation during construction and to minimise long traffic queues at peak commuting times ( – 9.30am and 4pm – 5pm), our contractor, BSG Civil Engineering, will employ the use of ‘STOP / GO’ boards.

Please be assured that NI Water and BSG Civil Engineering will work to complete this essential pipelaying work in the shortest timescale possible and with minimal impact to local residents and businesses.

As work gets underway on this important scheme we would appeal to the community, particularly children and young people, to “stay safe” around the works areas. NI Water and our contractor, BSG Civil Engineering would appeal for the support of everyone to ensure that young people do not play in or around the construction works or machinery.

NI Water would like to thank the public in advance for their patience and co-operation while we complete this essential sewerage scheme which will deliver environmental benefits for the Ballymartin area.
