£100,000 Watermains Improvement Programme for Belmont Church Rd, Belfast

12 June 2014 16:36

NI Water is currently engaged in an ongoing process of improving and upgrading the water supply infrastructure throughout Northern Ireland. We wish to inform customers that work is scheduled to commence to lay a new watermain, approximately 550 metres in length, along Belmont Church Road on the 16 July 2014 for a period of approximately 6 weeks. The announcement of this work is good news for the local area, as the upgraded water mains will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply.

Every effort will be made to minimise any inconvenience to local residents and businesses.  Access to all properties adjacent to the works will be maintained at all times, with appropriate measures also taken to ensure the safe passage of road users and pedestrians. Customers are also advised that access will be maintained to all local businesses in the area. Signage will be in place and the public will be notified of any diversions as necessary.

Maurice Crawford NI Water Project Manager said:

“This scheme is good news for the local area, as local people will directly benefit from improvements in the local water quality and reliability of the water supply for many years to come.

“Where possible, we will use state of the art no-dig technology to reduce the need to open large trenches in the road.

“NI Water will, in co-operation with DRD Roads Service, residents and local traders, do everything possible to reduce disruption. We will also work with Translink to ensure that public transport services function with minimum disruption.”

We would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that construction sites are a dangerous area for children and young people, and we would appreciate the co-operation of the community in ensuring that children do not play in or around the works or machinery.

NI Water and our contractor Lagan Construction will carry out letter drops in affected areas to advise those affected by this work. Our customer relations team can also be contacted via Waterline on 08457 440088. Customers with any questions on the scheme should quote “Lagan Construction Water Mains Rehabilitation Programme”.
