Watermains Improvement Programme Larne Road, Carrickfergus

17 June 2014 15:00

NI Water is currently engaged in an ongoing process of improving and upgrading the water supply infrastructure throughout Northern Ireland. We wish to inform customers that work is scheduled to commence to lay a new watermain on the Larne Road on the 23rd June 2014 for a period of approximately 12 weeks. The announcement of this work is good news for the local area, as the upgraded water mains will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply.

In order to complete this work efficiently and safely, a lane closure will be in place along Larne Road. However, two-way traffic will be maintained at all times with the use of temporary traffic lights. However, delays may be expected.

There may be some delays in the area at peak times. However, in order to minimise disruption, the work will be completed in four separate sections as follows:

23rd June - duration 1 week
Larne road from junction of Downshire Road to junction of Garden of Eden. A lane closure will be in place along the Carrick bound lane.

30th June – duration 2 weeks.
Larne Road from the junction of Downshire Road to the junction of Victoria Road. There will be a lane closure along the Larne bound lane. During this time the Victoria Road junction will be closed for a period of 2 days. There will be a diversion via the Victoria Road – Castle Road – Downshire Road.  Advance warning and diversionary signage will be in place.

21st July 2014 – duration 4 weeks.
A lane closure will be in place from the Larne Road from the junction of Garden of Eden to the junction of Beltoy Road. During this time the Edenvale Avenue junction will be closed for a period of 3 days. There will be a diversion via the Trailcock Road. Advance warning and diversionary signage will be in place.

A final section of work will take place in August 2014 on the Larne Road from the junction of the Garden of Eden to Downshire Road for approximately 5 weeks. During this time the junctions of Trailcock Road, Carrickburn Road, Downshire Gardens and Downshire Road will be closed individually for approximately 3 days.  Advance warning and diversionary signage will be in place prior to work commencing.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that construction sites are a dangerous area children and young people, and we would appreciate the co-operation of the community in ensuring that children do not play in or around the works or machinery.

NI Water and our contractor Farrans Construction will carry out letter drops in affected areas to advise those affected by this work. Our customer relations team can also be contacted via Waterline on 08457 440088. Customers with any questions on the scheme should quote “Farrans Construction Water Mains Rehabilitation Programme”.
