Essential Watermains Improvement Work Continues in South Belfast

31 July 2014 10:16

NI Water is currently engaged in an ongoing process of improving and upgrading the water supply infrastructure throughout South Belfast. This work is good news for the local area, as the upgraded water mains will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply, while reducing leakage and improving pressure in the area.

NI Water wish to advise the public that works are planned to commence in the San Souci area of South Belfast in early August for approximately three weeks. Following this, work will then move into Olympia Drive and we anticipate that work in this area will be completed by the end of September 2014. However work will continue throughout South Belfast until Spring 2015, but signage will be in place and letter drops will be completed as necessary to keep the public informed of all upcoming work.

Unfortunately, on street parking will be restricted throughout this programme of work. However, pedestrian access will be available to all properties at all times. Every effort will be made to restore access as soon as possible each evening and we would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation while we complete this essential programme of work.

Keith Haslett NI Water Project Sponsor said:

“The scale of the ongoing watermains project has required extensive work on local roads. However, where possible, we will use state of the art low-dig technology throughout this programme of work which will enable us to lay many of the mains without the need to open large trenches.

“This programme of work will deliver an improved service to our customers in the South Belfast area and NI Water will, in co-operation with the Department for Regional Development, do everything possible to keep any disruption to a minimum.”

NI Water and our contractor Farrans Construction would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation and will carry out letter drops in affected areas to advise residents of this work. Our customer relations team can also be contacted via Waterline on 08457 440088. Customers with any questions on the scheme should quote “Farrans Utilities Water Mains Rehabilitation Programme”.
