Essential Sewer Investigation Work gets Underway in Ballycastle

30 October 2014 11:18

NI Water intends to commence an essential programme of sewer investigation work on Monday 3 November for approximately six weeks.  The work will take place at the junction of the Cushendall Road and Carrickmore Road and throughout the Carrickmore Road area.

In order to carry out the works safely, it will be necessary to put traffic management in place in the form of three way traffic lights at the junction of Cushendall Road and Carrickmore Road for the first two weeks of the works.  In order to complete work on the Carrickmore Road in a safe manner, it will then be necessary to implement a road closure for the remaining four weeks.  A diversion route will be signposted via the Dumaroan Road.

Eimear Gourley, NI Water Project Manager, said: ''Traffic management measures will be in place throughout this programme of work and NI Water and our contractor Conwell Contracts Ltd would like to thank the public for their patience while this essential work is completed.

The work may cause some delays at peak times but we will continually monitor the situation to ensure that all disruption is kept to a minimum.  We will endeavour to make sure the work is completed as quickly as possible.''

While manholes are open, the working areas will have warning signs and temporary barriers erected to protect the public from these hazards.  The public are advised to stay out of these working areas for their own safety and NI Water would appeal for the support of parents to keep children and young people safe by explaining to them the dangers of playing in or around construction sites.  Playing near our works areas can have dangerous consequences and we would like to spread this safety message throughout the area while we complete this programme of work.
