Pipelaying to commence on B8 Hilltown Road- Ballydougan to Newry Trunk Main Scheme

21 August 2015 10:38

NI Water can advise residents and commuters that work will shortly be undertaken along the B8 Hilltown Road between the roundabout and the junction with Crieve Road.  This work forms part of the wider Ballydougan-Newry Trunk Main Scheme, worth some £6m million; this is a significant project which will upgrade the local water storage and supply network and enhance the security and quality of drinking water for customers in the Newry area.

Pipelaying work will commence on the Hilltown Road during the week commencing Monday 24 August, with work programmed for completion during the autumn of 2015.  The overall scheme is scheduled for completion in spring 2016.   In an effort to complete this work as quickly as possible, NI Water has agreed the following working hours with Transport NI:

  • Monday – Friday: 9:30am-4pm and 6pm-11pm
  • Saturday and Sunday : 8am-8pm
No work will take place during the main morning and evening commute hours; evening work will be largely to reinstate verges and other relatively minor work.  No work will take place on the following dates:

  • Friday 28 August – local band parades (no work on site after 4pm).
  • Saturday 29 August – Last Saturday in August parades (no work on site all day).
  • Sunday 30 August – Newry Triathlon (no work on site all day)
A lane closure and traffic light system will be in operation throughout the work duration in order to minimise delays.  Access to private property along the works route will be maintained at all times.

Customers with any special needs or requirements that they would like us to be aware of should contact Waterline on 03457 440088, quoting ‘BSG Ballydougan to Newry Trunk Main Scheme.’

NI Water and our contractor, BSG Civil Engineering, would like to thank customers and commuters in the area for their patience while this essential work is completed.  Every effort will be made to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.
