Watermains Improvement Work Gets Underway on Shankill Rd, Belfast

NI Water is pleased to announce that a watermains improvement scheme for the Shankill Road will get underway this month. It is anticipated that work will commence on the 6 June and will take approximately 5 weeks to complete. This work is part of a wider ongoing investment in the watermains infrastructure across Northern Ireland.

The work will be completed in sections, starting at Peter’s Hill and moving along the Shankill Road. A lane closure will be in place and two-way traffic will be maintained at all times. Traffic management and signage will be in place as necessary.

This investment is good news, as the upgraded water mains will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply, while reducing disruption and interruptions to supply caused by burst watermains.

Access to all properties and businesses adjacent to the works will be maintained at all times, with appropriate measures also taken to ensure the safe passage of road users and pedestrians.  

NI Water will continue to work closely with Transport NI, PSNI, local traders and residents to ensure that disruption is kept to an absolute minimum during this essential scheme. We will also cooperate with Translink to ensure that public transport functions with minimum disruption throughout the project.  

The public are advised to stay away from the working areas for their own safety and NI Water would appeal for the support of parents to keep children and young people safe by explaining to them the dangers of playing in or around construction sites. Playing near our works areas can have dangerous consequences and we would like to spread this safety message throughout the area while we complete this programme of work.

NI Water and our contractor Farrans Construction have completed letter drops to those properties close to the working area, and would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation while this essential work is underway and would like to assure you that we will do everything we can to complete the work as quickly as possible with minimal disruption.
