Essential Watermains Improvement Work in the Pipeline for Hillsborough

NI Water is pleased to announce the continuation of a major £300,000 watermains improvement programme for Hillsborough which will get underway in late July 2016. This investment is part of an overall £2,600,000 investment in the wider Lisburn, Dromore, Banbridge and Newry areas.

The extent of the work is along Lisburn Street and Lisburn Road between Ballynahinch Street and the Culcavy Road. This phase of work will get underway at the Ballynahinch Street junction, moving along the Lisburn Street in sections towards the Culcavy Road junction. The overall programme of work will be completed by the end of August 2016.

This investment is good news, as the upgraded water mains will improve the quality, reliability and security of the local water supply, while reducing leakage and improving pressure in the local area.

Traffic management and signage will be in place in all areas as necessary to inform the public in advance of the work. Where possible, NI Water will use state-of-the-art ‘no dig’ technology, which reduces the need for large open trenches in the road.

Access to all properties adjacent to the works will be maintained at all times, with appropriate measures also taken to ensure the safe passage of road users and pedestrians.  

NI Water will work closely with TransportNI, local traders and residents to ensure that disruption is kept to an absolute minimum during this essential work.  We will also co-operate with Translink to ensure that public transport serving the village functions with minimum disruption throughout the project.  

The public are advised to stay away from the working areas for their own safety and NI Water would appeal for the support of parents to keep children and young people safe by explaining to them the dangers of playing in or around construction sites. Playing near our works areas can have dangerous consequences and we would like to spread this safety message throughout the area while we complete this programme of work.

NI Water and our contractor Lagan Construction Group will complete letter drops to those properties close to the working area, and would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation while this essential work is completed and would like to assure you that we will do everything we can to complete the work as quickly as possible with minimal disruption.
