Lisburn Sewerage Improvement Scheme Continues

11 July 2016 12:20

Work is currently underway on an essential sewer improvement scheme in Lisburn. This scheme is a continuation of the work completed in Lisburn last Summer, which was postponed to Summer 2016 to minimise disruption to traffic flows and schools in the area. Once complete the project will improve the sewerage infrastructure in the area and will improve the river water quality in the river Lagan.

There are two sections of work programmed for the summer months as detailed below:-

Antrim Road

Work on replacing the existing sewer on Antrim Road between Clonevin Park and Bellevue Drive commenced on 4th July and will take approximately 8 weeks to complete. In order to carry out the work safely, it will be necessary to temporarily close sections of the Antrim Road for the duration of the works. Vehicular access will be maintained for residents where possible and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. Temporary traffic diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

Antrim Street

It is anticipated that work on the construction of a new sewer overflow chamber on Antrim Street close to the entrance to the McKeown Street Carpark will commence on the 25th July 2016 and will take approximately 8 weeks to complete. For this section of the work, traffic has been reduced down to one lane. Two-way traffic will be maintained with the use of temporary traffic lights. Parking will be restricted within the working area and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

There will be no work taking place on either section from 9th - 17th of July.

NI Water will work closely with TransportNI, local traders and residents to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum during this essential work. We will also co-operate with Translink to ensure that public transport functions with minimum disruption throughout the project.

NI Water and our contractor BSG Civil Engineering would like to thank the public for their patience and co-operation while this essential work is completed and would like to assure you that we will do everything we can to complete the work as quickly as possible with minimal disruption.
